It’s all about…

it’s all about… creativity… I think we need to come up with breath-taking (or, better said mouth watering) ideas all the time to keep us happy with our diet. Not that I am very creative but a few days ago I wanted to have the promin noodles and added a vegetarian sausage plus some low protein cheese on the top. It was very good, and a good alternation ๐Ÿ™‚

How do you jazz up simple PKU menus?

X-Pot… Delicious :)

Hello there,
I am trying out constantly all the new products which appeal to me. Another product which is new on the German market (it’s from the British company Firstplay) is this one. It’s a convenience-product, you only have to add water and wait some minutes before you can eat. So it’s very nice when you’re at work etc.

 

I tried the taste “India” (with Curry and lamb flavour). There are also two other tastes but I haven’t tried out yet, it’s “Asia” (sweet-sour sauce with chicken-flavour) and “America” (beacon and sausage flavour).

 

I loved the Indian X-Pot, but I’m not sure whether I want to buy it again. Preparation was as easy as promised. But I think the size of the cup is pretty small, it contains 60 g which is 19mg Phe and 139 kcal. So it’s more a snack, than a real menue and for this a price of more than 3 โ‚ฌ (which is around 2 $) I find it rather expensive for a snack that doesn’t leave you full and satisfied.

I also wondered whether it’s so good to add boiling water into a plastic bowl since obviously if you trust in the news, the water out of plastic bottles is not too healthy as well and the water is not heated during filling process or after, but well I guess tahts another topic ๐Ÿ˜‰ Preparation is also possible in a cup, so it’s up to everyone how to have this snack ๐Ÿ™‚

Thailand – it was great :)

Hi Everyone,

I returned from Thailand a few weeks ago and I’m still enjoying the great memories… it was a wonderful trip. We saw a lot and traveled a lot (4 different hotels in 2 weeks…) we went to Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Si Chang and a small village near Udon Thani.
Since there was raining season, it was never sunny all day long, but we were also lucky not to have rain regularly… Plus it was really more agreable to have a cloudy weather… (when the sun came out, it was simply too hot for my taste…). But on my last day I got a bit uncautioness and didn’t use sun screen and cought a sun burn from 15 minutes sun shining through the clouds… WOW.

People were very friendly, and we were a main attraction ๐Ÿ˜‰ especially me with the very light skin… ๐Ÿ˜€ Funny, that we here are aiming to have a darker complexion than we actually have and they are aiming a lighter one, all the beauty products are with “whitening effect”… funny how that differs…

Now I guess what interests you most is whether there were any problems bringing formula in / taking it and getting low protein food. Well, I had an attest from my doctor describing the formulas and their necessarity. But NO ONE wanted to see it, I don’t even know whether they got suspicious about my formula at all ๐Ÿ˜‰ So that was a good point. Also the intaking was pretty easy. I took it in the hotel room after the meal so I wouldn’t have to drink it in front of everyone else.

The food was delicious and it was easy to get veggie dishes. I had rice and rice noodles a lot. But honestly, after two weeks I’m fed up with rice… I haven’t had rice since my return now ๐Ÿ˜‰ There was also a nice one, which I tried at the Pattaya floating market: fried sticky rice (it looked like a burger, but all made of sticky rice and spices)… yummy, it was super delicious.

We also had a lot of fresh fruits and fresh coconut and fruit juices. So you see, when your not counting exactly the phe amount, only watching to avoid very high phe foods, it’s not a problem at all. I had great meals all the time… only too spicy from time to time ๐Ÿ˜‰ my stomach was not amused at all ๐Ÿ˜‰

My favourite fruit, by the way, was the dragon fruit. It tastes great ๐Ÿ™‚

The mysterious cheese’s name is…

Hey everyone…

I had a lot of messages asking what the name of this cheese is and where to buy it in different countries.

Well, the company’s name is Viotros, it’s a Greek company, and the cheese’s name is Santeciano.

For the possibility to buy it, I would ask you to start your own search on Google etc. since I could only tell sources to buy it from in Germany. In case, you cannot find a distributor in your area, have a try and ask producers of low protein food whether they can add this to their range of products. Especially since this cheese has no protein at all, I guess they will be willing to give this product a try.

Let me know what you found out – and in case you try it, how you like it.

Trying to lead the best diet we can

Hi everyone,

how do you get along with the diet? Is it always easy for you to stick to the “allowed” and low protein foods? For me, since I’ve tried out almost every kind of normal food (which I do regret at times, I guess it’s less likely to long for something its taste you don’t know ๐Ÿ˜€ ) it’s pretty hard. I’m always trying to fight against longings and BE RESONABLE.

First of all it’s important to be aware or get aware of your main problems.

When I am extremly hungry and I go shopping, I make unwise decisions. Also
when I am at home and too hungry, I use to eat while cooking the meal (or even before), usually out of the refrigerator. Also a difficult situation
is more likely to appear when it’s the end of the week and shopping needs to be made. Just had this problem yesterday. Since had no fruits at home, I grabbed a slice of normal bread from my fiancรฉs supplies. I simply didn’t think properly about this action. I could have eaten a slice of PKU bread instead since there was still enough there plus I really like the taste of this bread.


Then it’s all about finding solutions which work for you.

I know we shall be dieting for life. Which is good and I don’t put that in question at all, since I know that it is necessary to keep healthy and sane. But it might not be the best phrase to convince you in a difficult moment to grab something with low protein. Do you agree with that? It might even demoralize and lead to worse failures. I’m trying to tell myself that I take it step by step. It’s not the slice of normal bread or the glass of milk or the chocolate bar or even pasta or a meal with meat from time to
time which threatens the diet or your health, it’s the sum of them alltogether which makes it dangerous. So I am a big fan of allowing myself exceptions every now and then. I also use to calculate normal bread into my diet plan when I’m longing for it. I just need to be conscious of what I am eating exactly and how much phe it contains and then enjoy it as well, not eating something out of the refrigerator. I’m working on that.

What are your main problems with the diet? Are you doing well? What are your ideas of outthinking yourself during difficult situations?

In the end we really have to be proud of every step we’re making. Most (healthy) people don’t even have a little clue on how difficult it is to be restricted in food matters and they don’t even think about how blessed they are to be able to eat without thinking about any consequences because for them there are none (except for a possible overweight when eating to much ๐Ÿ˜€ ) But on the other hand, we are blessed too, we should not forget about this. We have the possibility to follow the diet, we have good medical guidance, we have special foods which makes a lot easier. A lot of people in the past hadn’t. So we should all make the best out of it.

Special Cheese: 0g protein!!!!

Hi everyone,

have you already heard of the special cheese from Greece? It was developed for vegans and is very compatible for PKU diet since there is NO protein in it! Plus it tastes very similar to normal cheese!

Iย love it, it’s greatย for dinner, with tomatoes. Yummy!
