Lophlex Sensation.. what do you think?

I was absolutely excited when I heard about this new kind of formula from Nutricia / former company SHS. Easy to take with you, since it comes along just like a yogurt, in a cup. I imagined myself in the office, enjoying the formula, after I had a nice lunch. Then, after reading the brochure, I was completely over the moon, since it promised a very good taste, without aftertaste.

Two different tastes is also enough for the beginning to have a little variety. You can choose between “Berries” and “Orange”.

Nutricia also did a great effort with the presentation. I got those cups with a spoon and a lunch box. Really cute. Nice idea.

So far, so good. I excitedly ripped of the lid and sniffed. I shouldn’t have done that 🙂  My dream splittered instantly, the taste wasn’t neutral at all. But ok. I wanted to give it a chance. I WANTED IT TO BE TASTY SO BAD!!!! Such a good idea.

But well, for my taste, it was a too strong amino acid taste. I don’t know maybe the exact ingredients differ from country to country, maybe your taste is different, but I was completely disappointed. This was the best formula idea I’ve ever heard of, right after the tablets.

Have you tried it yet? What do you think?

MetaX goes Fit PKU weekend

Hey 🙂

I wrote you in March, that I would take part on a PKU weekend about healthy food, healthy nutrition with PKU and healthy lifestyle in general. It was a wonderful weekend. We not only heard several interesting facts about nutrition, formula etc, we also had a cooking lesson, in which we created this delicious meal below, we got a lesson in Nordic Walking, a lesson in Qi Gong and were taken out for dinner.

Not only the great programme and information, also the nice conversation we PKUs had between all those interesting events was really great and motivating. Thank you, MetaX for the great time.

Have you ever been on a PKU training weekend? How did you like it? Did it change your attitude for the diet?

Cupcake Recipe

Hey everyone,

Many readers asked for the recipe, and here it is, nothing special at all, but try it 🙂

Banana cupcakes (recipe is very old, taken from the book “Eiweißarme Küche” from Milupa, I simply love it because it tastes great and turns out very well every time)

125 g margarine

110g sugar

210 g low protein flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon natron

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon muskat

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

200g bananas

60 ml water

you’ll get 12 cupcakes out of it and one cupcake (without topping) has approximately 12 mg Phe.

190°C baking for 20-25 minutes.

I chose to make a topping with cream cheese, this is higher in phe of course but also in consideration of the calories, you could add only a little bit on each cake, so it won’t be that much, I guess.

100g icing sugar

100g butter

100g cream cheese

If you prefer the lowest phe variant, then just have a look on the internet, you can also easily make a topping with butter and icing sugar only, but I haven’t made this yet so I cannot provide a recipe 🙂

If you want to add colour, I can recommend powder food colouring. I could easily add it until I had the colour I wanted and the topping still kept its consistency. You can also add glitter, I have some by the company “The sparkle range – Rainbow dust”. There are so many different colours available. You can also obtain edible “objects” like those butterflies (edible paper), roses (sugarpaste, bought at the supermarket, but if you want to do it on your own, also the internet provides a great variety of recipes and how-to-dos 😉 and you can also use different sweets to put on top.

I would also be curious for your tips, recipes and toppings 🙂 Please let me know, I will publish the recipe in your name of course!

PKU Proud

Today is my full day off. The weather was not to great but when it did finally clear up I got outside and planted my veggie garden. Also potted my artichokes, tomatoes, and peppers. I also used my last planter for the radishes. Since I ran out of room in my vegtable garden. I was not able to to get my brussle sprouts , cauliflower or second brocoli planted. Or my cantalope.  I did get onions, beans, cucumber, carrots, lettuce, kholoabi and pumpkins planted from seed in the garden.  I will need to buy a few extra planters so i can re pot the lemon and lime trees we bought from Art Knapps yesterday.  I am so excited and looking forward to benift from growing my own natural and oragnic food! what can be more rewarding from all my hard work! and coles hard work. Thank you Mama!

Today, it’s mothers day and I want (and absolutely need) to thank my mother for everything she has done for me. Especially when it comes to diet, without her, I wouldn’t be what I am today. Her constant effort to bring up new recipes and ideas for the daily diet (which I mostly despised without even looking at it) and her dieting itself, making me take the formula or blood when I sometimes behaved like I rather wanted to die, knowing whats best for me.

What would we be without our mothers? Especially we, having PKU. THANK YOU!

Low Protein Cupcakes… Sparkling all over :)

Hey 🙂

since I wasn’t blogging around Easter, I want to show you what I made 🙂 I decided to try low protein cupcakes. This is how they turned out. They look good, don’t they? And guess which ones are the “normal” ones with high protein (I made those for my family, too)

Are you into baking? Do you have a good cupcake recipe? How do you make the topping? In this case, I decided to do it like the other ones with cream cheese since I only wanted to eat 2-3 pieces and deep-freeze the remaining ones.
